NEWBORN FAQs

When is the best time to book my Newborn Session?
As soon as possible to secure your spot on the calendar. We pencil in your 'due date' so we do not overbook with other sessions during that time period. Especially through our busy times ie; May/June grad and fall/Christmas seasons. Once baby arrives we collaborate on the best date for your household.

What time is best for the session?
We only do morning sessions at 10 am MST time when everyone is as fresh as they can be for the day. Newborns are best done before the 2 weeks as they sleep sounder/longer as well curl up naturally. If for some reason we miss this time period, we can still do baby poses. Life happens and I don't want anyone to stress about timelines. The photos will be equally as heartwarming.

How long does it take?
A typical newborn photo session can last up to 2 hours, stopping for breaks with the baby directing 'the show'.

Can we bring props/items from home?
Yes just make sure I have pictures of them before the session so I can set up and incorporate them into the shoot the best way. The newborn session is planned out ahead of time as far as color/theme. Only props that baby can be safely posed on/in will be used. Feel free to ask if you are unsure.

Can we get a 'couple' of images of the siblings with baby?
Small children get bored easily so we do these at the beginning of the session along with the family images. Dad can leave with them to run errands/go the park which is down the block from the Studio.
Note: Sibling shots are the most challenging part in a Newborn session due to the ages/attention spans and can consume a good part of your session time 'to set up just one' so we will work on one and go from there according to their ages.
(tip -Bring cereal treats that I can hide in a sibling set up)

What should baby wear?
Please put babe in an oversized sleeper that is easily taken off without waking them up. No onesies or fitted clothing. If they wake up on arrival then we will go straight into a feed. I have a growing collection of wraps/newborn pants/outfits that are designed for newborn sessions that we can use.

What makes for a successful session?
Dress them in an oversized sleeper and feed babe before arriving.
The ride should lull them into a nice sleep.
Bring a soother if you have one just in case we need it for them to settle.
Plan to feed an extra feed while at the studio.
Bring a few receiving blankets.

What should my family wear?
Solids look better than some prints; planning that part before babe arrives sometimes is easier than when you are running on little sleep once they arrive. The studio will be warm for a baby in little clothing, so dress light or in layers.

What kind of poses does the studio offer?
Baby safety is the number one consideration at the Studio. We will not do any poses we feel are unsafe. For poses on props the baby must be asleep with the parents' hands on the baby. ie ) newborn on a saddle...parents have one hand on the baby and photo shopped out of the picture. Typically we start wrapped on the bean bag with transitional poses before a prop set up.
